The fact that you are concerned about your friend means you are already supporting her. Your friendship is what matters most. She needs physical and emotional help, and we’re happy to provide some practical ways that you can assist her.

We offer pregnancy services at no cost that can protect her health and safety. If she needs resources and community referrals, we can also provide those. Please ask your friend to schedule a confidential appointment at no cost, and come with her to provide the extra encouragement she needs.

Here are a few ideas to help you support her at this time. Thanks for caring.

Provide Practical Help

Some of the earliest pregnancy symptoms include feeling tired and nauseous. If your friend is going through early signs of pregnancy, she may need some practical, physical help. Here are a few ideas:

  • Help her do everyday tasks like laundry, cleaning, or the dishes.
  • Do her grocery shopping.
  • Have her favorite meal delivered (Ask if she’s experiencing another pregnancy symptom–food aversions or cravings)
  • Offer to drive her to her doctor’s appointments.

Provide Emotional Support

An unexpected pregnancy is overwhelming. Your friend may be experiencing a range of emotions, including joy, fear, guilt, and anger, all at the same time. She needs the emotional support of a good friend like you. Here are some ideas:

  • Treat her to the movies or an evening out if she feels up to it.
  • Take her some flowers and spruce up her home.
  • Go for a walk.
  • Practice active listening. Be attuned to the feelings behind your friend’s words and repeat them back to her to show you understand and hear her.
  • Only offer your opinion if asked.

Encourage Her to Get Answers

At Pregnancy Resources, we provide practical and emotional support in a non-judgmental, caring environment. Bring your friend here for essential testing, a review of her options, and a listening ear. We’re here for both of you.

She can receive the following free services:

  • Even if she’s taken a home pregnancy test, a registered nurse at Pregnancy Resources administers a retest to confirm her initial results.
  • Often, a positive pregnancy test doesn’t provide enough information. Her next step is to receive a free ultrasound.  A limited obstetrical ultrasound determines how far along she is in her pregnancy, the location of the pregnancy, and if it’s developing.
  • Limited STI testing and treatment are vital to protect her health. Many STIs don’t have immediate symptoms, but left untreated, they can lead to serious health problems later.
  • A consultation to discuss all of her options, including various resources and community referrals to assist her.
