You would think a late period and a positive pregnancy test would be all you need to determine if you are actually pregnant. But it may not be.

We offer free and confidential limited obstetrical ultrasounds to give you real-time information about your pregnancy and answer some critical questions.

What Is an Ultrasound?

An ultrasound uses sound waves to create an image of your pregnancy. Our abdominal ultrasounds send sound waves through your abdomen with a device called a transducer. Those sound waves transform into images a technician can view on a computer screen.

Why Do I Need An Ultrasound?

There are three critical questions an ultrasound answers concerning your pregnancy:

1. Is the Pregnancy Growing, or Did I Miscarry?

Although unusual, getting a false positive on a pregnancy test is possible. A false positive means the pregnancy test indicates you are pregnant when you no longer are.

Experts estimate as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage. Many of those occur in the first few weeks of pregnancy. Because it takes time for a woman’s body to return to pre-pregnancy hormone levels, it’s entirely possible to get a positive test result and not be pregnant.

Only an ultrasound can determine if your pregnancy is growing or if you have miscarried.

2. Where Is the Pregnancy Located?

When a pregnancy is located outside of the uterus, it is called an ectopic pregnancy. This type of pregnancy cannot continue to grow. If left untreated, it could cause life-threatening bleeding. You must see your healthcare provider as soon as possible.

An ultrasound detects the location of your pregnancy.

3. How Far Along Am I?

If you are considering abortion, this is especially important information. Because the FDA only approves the use of the abortion pill method through 10 weeks of pregnancy, you need to know a precise date.

An ultrasound can provide the actual number of weeks and days through various measurements.

Before You Make a Decision

You owe it to yourself to get as much information as possible about your pregnancy before you move forward. It’s the only way to protect your health and determine your options.
